In the editing process of my music video for my Unit 29 BTEC task, I used Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019 to gather together all of my raw clips in the conventional stylistic elements which a music video would generally follow. Throughout this process, I am going to refer towards the different techniques I have both learnt and developed upon and added to in the end. This is one of the first projects I created and the pre-production planning, production shooting and post-production editing I learnt through the project managed to teach me a lot about the different processes needed during filmmaking. This project has taught me a lot about the importance of these three stages as well as the mechanics needed throughout the process.
I decided to create a narrative/concept based music video. This would mean that the video would consist of a set storyline which is easy to follow as well as one which leaves room for viewers to gain their own individual views on. I did a lot of pre-set research on the song in depth analysing a short background summary of the artists, the meaning behind the song and analysed the song in depth. As the lyrics suggest, the song was all about feeling alone, isolated and away from society. Through that, I decided to create a storyline which relates to all of this researched information into the video. I wanted to capture Alex happy in the park alone to show she doesn’t need anyone to be happy but then and we see Rishika and Roshni together without her. This would make our main actress Alex feeling a bit more alone since she noticed them which is like a reminder out of the blue that shes alone. We then see a dream sequence once she reaches the grass of her dreaming about being friends again with Roshni and Rishika however, when she does wake up, she realises that it was only a 'lovely' dream but not reality.
For the actual video, the first thing I did after capturing all the footage was go over all my clips, make two folders one called ‘’bin’’ and one called ‘’footage’’ and arranged my footage in one of the folders. The reason I didn't immediately delete footage I thought was bin worthy was because I may have wanted to use it in the future so it's good to keep those footages until you complete your projected. I then also named in order so it was easier to find which means I’d waste less time whilst editing. I then opened Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019 which was my first time using this software to edit. Through tutorials on youtube, a passion and desire to learn this program and help from friends and teachers, I managed to pick up how to use the software quite quickly.
I mainly used the razor tool to cut out bits of the clips which I didn't need and just dragged it around to the correct positioning. When it came to areas such as the dream sequence, I would duplicate the previous layer, play it a bit slower and lower the video clips opacity to about 50% make it look a bit blurred and drowsy. I also used some flowers as an overlaying duplicate to make it seem a bit more heavenly. I still felt a bit of a neutral mood watching it so I used an adjustment layer to change the colour scheme of the videos.
In conclusion, I learnt a lot about editing aspects when it came to the history of it to practically completing a project. I furthered my understandings through Youtube tutorials, friends and teachers and lessons on editing and I learnt how editing can be a very powerful tool especially when trying to convey a story more efficiently.
