INTRODUCTION AND INITIAL TASK
For a specific media product, you must generate thorough and comprehensively detailed pre-production documentation, working independently to professional expectations. You will now originate and plan a media production for a specific brief to a technological quality that reflects near-professional standards, showing creativity and flair and working independently to professional expectations.
Initial idea:
Originally, I had multiple ideas which i all did research for. I then decided to focus on one main song and do more wider research, this happened to have been Billie Eilish- Lovely. I did indepth research on the artist herself to see what type of personality she and her audience might potentially have, the songs meaning and then began to storyboard. I was thinking of creating a music video which showcases a girl who feels she is trapped in her own emotions that nobody could understand, not even the love of her life. She feels like its not worth explaining her emotions to him as he would only understand her temporally. As a result, when he does try to understand her, he puts enough effort to show he cares and she does give him chances to understand her but realises shes only fooling herself as the differences between them cannot change, there will always be this gap between them whether she's awake or asleep.
THE SONGS MEANING
The song seems to be about someone who is in a phrase filled with different emotions where they cant get out of even though they don't want to be in it in the first place. As a result, the person seems to be talking to himself constantly reminding how he will get though it while dealing it by himself instead of talking to others. This however doesn't change the fact that this is a horrible emotion to contain all alone as you end up feeling like you're the only person who can stand up for yourself as nobody would understand you. This might be the reason why it was used in '13 Reasons Why' as it fully resembles the characteristics portrayed by Hannah Baker. After this, I did a lyrical breakdown.
LYRICAL BREAKDOWN:
|
After I created the lyrical breakdown of what I was planning on creating, I decided to do a storyboard in order to bring my thoughts to life seeing how it would fit piece by piece. Story boarding is a very beneficial aspect to make so that when it comes to the actual shooting, you will know exactly what angles, aspects and movements to include making it easier when it comes to editing the video in post-production.

SHOOTING SCHEDULE & RISK ASSESSMENT
In order to organize the entire pre-production, both a schedule for shooting and risk assessment should be taken in order to remove any potential chances for future confusions and eliminate any type of time wastage.
Casting
In order to have a successful music video, you need the right cast. I chose to cast previously experienced actors and actresses who worked at school productions, stage choreographed dancing and singing. I needed to make sure I had back-up actresses in case one thing when wrong and my actor/actress could not come during that day, or if I had a sudden idea occur in my mind which required more than two individuals.

bUDGET
Being a student at BSM gave me the opportunity not to worry too much about finance however, this is what the cost would have been if I did have to cover it in order to make your video.

First draft
eVALUATION
In order to know how well my music video would be effective, I needed some critical feedback. I showcased my music video to some friends and some strangers and asked their advice. Most of the feedback was positive however I had a few points which I had to reflect on. From this, i decided to redraft my first idea and inc operate all the bullet points which were suggested by them:
- Improved lighting in color grading
- Make the narration more clear because nobody would understand what you're trying to portray
- Make sure you frame your videos more clearer
- Try and use a range of shots
- Include some slow motion shots
- Try film another area, the parking lot isn't creating a strong effect
- Get rid of the dance scene & diegetic sound
First we see Alex alone and I’ll capture shots of her happy in the park alone to show that she doesn’t need anyone to be happy but then and we see Rishika and Roshni together without her. I’ll get shots of Alex feeling a bit more alone since she noticed them and then going to lay on the grass with a close up shot. Then, I will use a dream affect which will end up with her dreaming of being friends with Roshni and Rishika and they have a good time till the dream is over. When she does wake up, she realises that it was only a 'lovely' dream but not reality.
